What do they wear in Italy?

aspire-honey-smAfter spending the last week and a half in Italy, I am now in Florence and I can’t help to notice all the Sunglasses everyone is wearing. Everyone seems to have a different style or brand so I decided to try to figure out which brands were most popular. It seems that the cheap knock-offs are by far the most popular, everything from hello kitty frames to hearts to knock-off ray-bans (I guess they don’t read this blog). This is followed by designer eyewear  like Gucci, Prada, Dolce & Gabanna, ect. Oakley also seems to be popular in the crowds and stores along with Ocean Waves and Anarchy.

Large frames seem to be the norm for women while men seem to prefer wraparound frames. It is very unusual for anyone to not be wearing some type of sunglasses and since there has been no rain or cloudy days since I’ve arrived I expect that to be normal for Italian summers.

Answers to a Glaring Problem

If you find yourself squinting in the noonday sun and suffering sensitivity to glare, polarized lenses are worth a look. Glare is produced when the sun reflects off of horizontal surfaces such as roadways or water. This reflected light hits the eye all at once rather than being spread out safely in a normal configuration. For this reason, drivers and boaters are especially susceptible to glare.

Polarized eyewear corrects the way light is distributed to the human eye. Polarized lenses contain a filter to block intense rays of light, making for a more enjoyable midday drive or early morning boat ride. It should be noted that polarized glasses, as with any eyewear, are not intended to protect you from looking directly at the sun. Rather, they are unparalleled tools for cutting down on indirect glare.

ocean waves-atlantic beach 2 The coastal waters off of Floridas’ East coast have been a hotspot for fisherman for the past few weeks with calm seas and lots of bait. And the Tarpon, Kings and Spanish have been everywhere! Yesterday we got into a large bait school and caught our limit in in less than an hour!

My sunglasses where invaluable, with my Off Shore Blue Mirror lenses I was able to spot the school before the predators started to feed. We were able to get our lines in the water right at the critical time. I can’t say enough about these sunglasses they are perfect for fishing!

Polycarbonate - The best Lens for kids

coyote-p-10If your looking for sunglasses for kids it’s best to buy ones with polycarbonate lenses. They are virtually shatterproof and therefore offer the best protection from flying objects. Many companies offer polycarbonate lens and they have become more popular than both glass and plastic lens.

Along with this you should also ensure that they offer at least 90% UVA and UVB protection. Several studies have shown that early exposure to the suns UV rays is the leading cause of the most common eye problems in later life.

Remember that although these sunglasses may cost a bit more than the department store variety in the long run they are worth the extra few dollars.

Polarized Lenses - Don’t go to the beach without them

coyote sunglassesThe water has finally cleared up and the Manatees and Turtles have been active, but unless you’re wearing polarized sunglasses you’re going to miss them!

Summer is always a busy time at the beach with the kids out of school and the long hot days. And with the economy in it’s current state where else can you enjoy a full day of fun for free? And with turtle nesting season in full swing along with manatee migration there’s lots to see, if you can see them. Although both of these aquatic creatures do come to the surface they spend most of their time just under the surface. So it’s best to spot them before they surface and UVA sunglasses just don’t cut it.

So if  your going to be spending any time at the beach in Florida this summer make sure you bring your polarized lenses!
